The
day will usually start around daybreak, depending on what will be
used for bait you will either start fishing right away throwing
artificials to redfish, speckled trout, and snook or you will glide
across the flats to the area where you will help the captain cast
net baitfish for the days fishing. Once this is decided the fishing
will start.
You will catch glimpses of many of the
fish you are going to catch as you move through the area's maze of
mangrove shorelines. You will spot many targets to present your
bait to. Now the fun begins, you must stop the hard charging snook
from getting to the shoreline where he will likely break your line
off in the oyster-encrusted roots of the mangroves. This
exhilaration often happens within the first hour and you still
have the rest of the day to try and get even.
In addition to the snook there are many
other inshore fish that will test your angling talent. Some like the
Redfish will pull like a truck and try to overwhelm you with brute
force rather than cut you on sharp crustaceans. Trout who will
battle you on the surface, trying to throw what ever you have snared
him on right back at you. If this sounds like something you might
like inshore flats fishing is for you.
Tarpon Fishing Charters:
Picture
yourself drifting through Boca Grande pass watching hundreds of
Tarpon rolling on the surface. The captain tells you they are
crowded beneath you. He says "drop them". You lower your bait
to the bottom and feel a "thump". Just as you start to crank
you observe your line disappearing off the reel at a rapid
pace. You move quickly to the front of the boat and the captain
announces "he’s coming up!" There he is, 150 pounds of fish,
six feet long, ten feet in the air, and only ten yards from the
boat. For the next 30 minutes you do battle with this leviathan
and when you finally have him at boat side for your photo, you
realize you have five more hours to left to fish.
Without a
doubt the tarpon is king of the inshore world. They are true
giants with weights approaching 200 pounds common. There are two
ways of fishing for these giants:
-
Vertical jigging the deep
pass of Boca Grande
-
Throwing live bait and artificials on the
pristine beaches of southwest Florida.
Again,
you are sitting 20 yards away from the most beautiful beaches in
the world and the sun has not even broken the horizon. The
captain tells you to get ready. You can see them rolling on the
surface 100 yards away and closing. As their chrome sides,
glistening from what little light there is turn over, you think
to yourself " make a good cast". The crab flies perfectly
through the air and lands right in the path of the oncoming
Tarpon. There must be 30 or 40 of them. Then you see a flash,
at the same time you feel it. The captain yells "set on him!"
Before you
even have a chance to think, the fish is air born. You make it
through the first jump. "Bow!" yells the captain as to your
utter amazement the fish is in the air again. Twice more he
explodes through the surface of the water, twisting and writhing
before you can get your emotions in check. You can feel the
enormous power of the Tarpon pulling the boat were he wants to
go. You are in confident and in complete control when he is
ready to fly once again. You see the line rising just as he
breaks the surface. You bow and... he is gone. This is
tarpon fishing!
Airboat Fishing Charters:
Airboat
fishing is where we actually fish the shallowest water you have ever
been in. These trips are done during the winter months (Dec. Jan.
Feb.). We fish the lowest tides of the year, the airboat allows us
to drive across dry land to get deep into the backcountry where the
small pools and deep holes still hold water. Fish that have been on
the flats must go to these areas to stay in water. These pools can
sometimes hold up to 50 redfish apiece and they have no way to leave
until the water returns. This is where the airboat comes into play
we drive from hole to hole catching redfish, sea trout, and snook
all on artificial and flies. Along the way you will see some of the
most fantastic scenery central Florida has to offer. These trips are
6 to 7 hours long and for up to three (3) anglers. Everything is
included licenses, rods, reels, and any fish will be cleaned and
bagged.
Bass Fishing:
You will start at day break. You
will be patrolling the shoreline throwing artificial lures or
live shiners to the most inviting areas in central Florida that
a bass could want. These are the same areas that many BASS
professionals have tried to figure out for years.
Today is
different though. You see your float disappear in a boil of
water, you set the hook, and have just picked a fight with a
very mad Florida largemouth. Once in the boat you have your
trophy made into a photo. As you let him swim away you wonder
how many pros would have liked to had that one on tournament
day.
